Which Guitar Hero Game is Best to Buy?
This has always been a difficult decision since Rock Band broke into the market, which game is right for you? Now this decision is becoming even harder because both gaming companies are releasing even more games, so here’s a post to explain the range of games you can get on the next-gen consoles.
Guitar Hero 2 is where I'll begin because this is the first game to be released onto the next generation gaming consoles. Although this is a good game, it only has the guitar career so this one is not a great one for beginners. I would recommend this game if you are a fan of the classic songs like Free Bird.
Guitar Hero 3 is the next one to consider, it's available for both the next gen consoles, the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Guitar Hero 3 is very similar to the previous Guitar Hero 2, it's an extremely good game, however it's restricted by having only the guitar career. However, this game comes with the best set list out of all of the games, although less songs, but they are all great so it's a must have for any player.
The next one up is Guitar Hero Aerosmith, however, I will also include Guitar Hero Metallica in this one because they are both band based. Due to what I just said, these games are not great for beginners because you don't get a wide array of songs. Unless you are a fan of that particular band, I wouldn't recommend that you buy them.
Guitar Hero World Tour, now, this one was very popular because it was the first game to come with the full range of instruments, drums, guitar, mic and bass. However, in my opinion, the set list is terrible. It’s full of very old and cheesy songs, although, it is a fun one for the whole family to play.
Now this one is the most recently released game, Guitar Hero Greatest Hits. I do believe that this game is the best for a beginner Guitar Hero player or entire family. I believe this because the song list is built up from the best songs from Guitar Hero 1,2,3, 80's and Aerosmith. This means that you get the best set list from all those games, plus the ability to play through the songs using any of the available instruments.
Now onto Guitar Hero's competitor, Rock Band. The first game, Rock Band 1, was extremely good because it had a great set list as well as the addition of the full range of instruments. The guitar controller that was released with the game was horrible, but the game itself was absolutely brilliant. However, with the release of Rock Band 2 I wouldn’t buy Rock Band 1 as the first game because Rock Band 2 comes with an equally great set list but it comes with added bonuses that the first game doesn’t. Also, once you have Rock Band 2, you can then buy Rock Band 1 and add the songs onto Rock Band 2.
The big downside to Rock Band 2 is that you can't buy the new instruments yet in Europe that come with the better drum set. Note: This kit is being released in the upcoming, The Beatles: Rock Band game.
That's not all, though, Rock Band also has a huge online library of songs that you can download for a small amount. They have hundreds and hundreds of songs that you can download to expand your song list, plus they are all compatible with all the Rock Band games meaning you can play them on any of the games.
However, is Rock Band a good choice for beginners? I would say no, however, it has to be the best game for any experienced player because it has a hugely expandable set list with new songs being released for download almost every week.
As for the best game for beginner music game players, I would say that Guitar Hero Greatest Hits is the best, as long as you buy the whole set of instruments to get the most benefit out of the game.
